After a divorce and a career change, Alex Clark is finding some normalcy in his life when he meets a strange man who weaves a story of aliens “seeding” the human population of Earth. He draws Alex into a competition that could determine the survival of those humans.
Apollo of Helios and his twin brother, Ares — wealthy noblemen on the distant planet of Uor — have inherited the Earth from their father. The “Garden of Eden” — the name they gave the planet thousands of years ago — is tended by quantum androids that look like humans, but have incredible computing powers. The Uorians sent three “Gardeners” to Earth over 50,000 years ago with a stock of 9,000 frozen human embryos, which is the foundation for all humans on the planet today. The contest between Apollo and Ares spins out of control when Apollo runs afoul of the law on Uor, risking the family’s wealth and power. Apollo must go into hiding in the “wild territories” of Uor, and Ares tries to draw him out by giving his support, and the Gardener he controls, to The Seven Great Families, a group of very dangerous extremist on Earth, who wish to replicate The Seven Great Families of Uor, where 30,000 years of rule by the “Families” has produced a regimented political, social, and economic structure that rewards the few who are born to nobility at the expense of the great majority. Now, Apollo seeks to end the rule of the Noblers and bring democracy — and the chaos that goes with it — to his world. At the same time, Alex Clark must find a way to stop the threat to Earth. |

“Mr. Clark, may I have a few
words with you?”
“Do we know each other?” “Not yet,” the man responded. “I’m Jack Goodman and I assure you that I mean you no harm. I do, however, want to ask for your help.” There was something odd about the man; perhaps the eyes. Little did Alex Clark know that upon hearing those words, his life would change forever. Jack Goodman is a “Gardener” — a machine sent to Earth 50,000 years ago from a distant planet to tend to a new “crop” of humans. But his masters on Uor can’t resist the temptation to tamper with social and political happenings on Earth. Now Alex must learn about quantum physics and anthropology. In addition, he must navigate a global political landscape to convince doubtful politicians of the dangers from climate change. Of course, he can’t tell them that the real danger comes from a place called Uor. Alex learns that much of what he was taught about history and religion may be wrong. Also, he finds the love of his life, with whom he shares his predicament. Together, they can save humankind, but if they fail, the planet will be plunged into centuries of warfare and destruction. Personal danger is never far away either, as powerful forces try to stop them. Cover image courtesy of Carlos Porto at freedigitalphotos.net |
The Salt Castle (The Gardeners No. 2)
Good vs. Evil in a connected universe.
Once again, the rivalry between Apollo of Helios and his twin brother, Ares is spinning around Alex Clark. This time, the game turns deadly. Apollo has run afoul of the law on Uor, and Ares must capture or kill him in order to preserve the family’s wealth and power.
The conflict could have apocalyptic consequences on Earth as Ares tries to draw his brother from hiding. Each of the brothers controls a “Gardener”, powerful quantum devices that have walked the Earth in human form for over fifty thousand years. These machines can command any computer on Earth, including nuclear weapons systems. Ares has aligned himself with a secretive paramilitary group with plans to depopulate the Earth and remake it in the image of Uor. Apollo and Alex must stop them. Alex Clark’s honeymoon is
interrupted by the re-emergence of Marcus Rogers and his evil band, The Seven
Great Families. The group, with the help of a powerful alien nobleman — Ares of
Helios — intend to depopulate the Earth and remake what remains in the image of
Ares’ home planet, Uor. But Ares’ twin brother, Apollo, is determined to save
both Earth and Uor from class-based dictatorships.
Alex and Apollo are both caught in a race against the clock because Rogers has forced a group of noted scientists to develop an Uorian technology into a powerful weapon that will bring the leaders of Earth to their knees. Meanwhile, Apollo has been declared an outlaw on Uor and, reluctantly, becomes the leader of a movement to dismantle a dictatorship that has ruled the planet for thirty thousand years. |
